Hi! I’m Solomiia (or just Sol), a junior at Bard College majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Computer Science. I’m passionate about helping students become more efficient in their studying and understand how classroom concepts come to life in the real world. I’ve worked as a tutor for Chemistry, Physics, Math, and Biology in Bard and Simon’s Rock for over 2 years helping academy and college students with problem-solving skills in high-level STEM courses. As a General and Organic Chemistry lab assistant, I also guide students with learning lab techniques and experimental design. Beyond academics, I’ve served as President of the International Students Club, organizing cultural and educational programs that build community and leadership skills. I’m also currently volunteering as an English tutor and mentor for Ukrainian students. My approach to tutoring is adaptive, I believe every student learns best when lessons are connected to their interests and style of studying. Ultimately, my goal is to make learning more enjoyable and inspiring by showing how the material connects to the area of innovation.

Hello, I’m Jesse! I’m in my second year at Bard college studying Global and International Studies with a concentration on Latin American and Iberian Studies and Spanish. My goal as a tutor is to support students academically by helping them develop confidence and a genuine interest in learning, even when the material is challenging. My passion for the humanities and for using writing as a tool for clearer thinking led me to pursue tutoring. I hope to encourage students to embrace the toughest parts of writing and ultimately use that struggle to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of a subject. I have long been the person my peers could turn to for help with coursework, and that has taught me how to effectively communicate how any piece of writing can be improved. I teach practical study strategies—breaking tasks into manageable steps, annotating texts productively, and outlining essays—that students can apply across disciplines. My approach to writing instruction is rooted in the tenets of effective and cohesive argument building, which ties into public speaking and oratory. I emphasize a ground-up strategy for crafting an argument which begins with talking ideas through before anything even gets written down–a practice that will naturally build a student’s confidence with speaking and presentation. My background in theater and speech and debate enables me to bring different strategies to this kind of teaching. Outside the classroom, I play on Bard’s tennis team. My love for the sport led me to work as a full-time tennis coach for students ages 5–14, which strengthened my ability to teach with patience, clarity, and encouragement. I look forward to utilizing my skillset to bolster students’ confidence and passion for learning by providing practical academic skills in an encouraging, stress-free way.

Yaroslav
Bard College, Class of 2027, majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science
Tutoring subjects:
Algebra, Precalculus, Linear Algebra, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Vector Calculus, Abstract Algebra, Computer Science and Coding, Object Oriented Programming, Data Structures
My name is Yaroslav, and I am a Mathematics and Computer Science double major at Bard College, graduating in 2027. I have over three years of tutoring experience, first at Dutchess Community College and now at Bard, helping students strengthen their skills and confidence in subjects such as calculus, linear algebra, computer programming, and algorithms. My approach to tutoring focuses on making complex ideas clear, intuitive, and engaging. I believe that every student can thrive when guided with patience and curiosity. Alongside tutoring, I have conducted research in quantum physics, where I developed interactive visualizations to make abstract mathematical concepts easier to understand, an approach I bring into my teaching. Beyond academics, I also work as a software engineer and game developer, having completed over 100 projects that combine creativity and problem solving. Whether your child needs support mastering a challenging topic or wants to explore their interests in math and computer science more deeply, I strive to make every session encouraging, personalized, and inspiring.

Miles

Physics and Math (up to Single Variable and Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, etc)
Test results:
SAT: 1440 (Math 700, Reading and Writing 740)
AP Exams: Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism (3), Physics C: Mechanics (4), Physics II (3), Psychology (5), Statistics (4)
Hello! I’m Miles, a senior at Bard College studying physics. I love problem solving, and studying physics allows me to stretch my abstract thinking and apply it to real-life scenarios. To me, there is nothing more satisfying than teaching someone how to overcome a difficult problem. I’ve been an informal tutor for friends and family for many years. Formally, I’ve done one-on-one tutoring and worked as a lab assistant for introductory physics courses. I’ve built a robust skillset in tutoring intimidating subjects, keeping students engaged, not overwhelmed. I’m also very adaptable, and I keep an open line of communication with students to ensure I’m meeting their needs. This goes for accessibility as well; I aim to give students a space that rewards curiosity and competence, not just rote memorization. Outside of my areas of focus, I also wear many hats at Bard College. I am a Peer Counselor, a position similar to an RA but with a greater focus on community building and communication. I also sing opera, run a radio show on the college station (WXBC), and I’ve done voice acting for several small student projects. This all keeps me connected with my community, grounding all that I do in a sense of respect and mutual care. My goal in tutoring is to educate, of course. More than that, though, I aim to ignite a passion in my students. My hope is that even the most reluctant learners might be able to not only excel on tests, but to understand why what they are learning matters.
