Hello! My name is Fida and I’m a junior at Smith College, where I’m double majoring in Mathematical Sciences and Middle East Studies. I’ve always loved helping others learn. Before college, I used to work as a tutor in my home state Arizona, where I helped K–12 students in math, science, English, and Latin. At Smith, I’ve continued developing my communication and mentoring skills through research and math tutoring. I’m passionate about making complex ideas clear and helping students feel confident and capable in any subject. Outside academics, I love exploring art and language learning, I've learned Latin for many years and have volunteered with some youth art programs. I have also been training in classical voice and opera for 6 years and enjoy helping young singers develop both their technique and confidence. My favorite part of tutoring has always been making connections with students and helping them have fun with their passions and I'm looking forward to more incredible students and connections!

Hello! My name is Sahvanna and I am a first year at Smith College majoring in Government, with a concentration in American Politics, on a pre-law track, graduating in 2029. I am from New York City and went to Trinity School. I have always loved working with kids since high school and volunteered at Manhattan Children's center, gaining experience in working with special needs children. During the summers in high school, I also worked as a counselor at summer camps with campers of all ages. I am a native Spanish speaker and have been taking French classes for 8 years. Since elementary school, I have always loved Math and Art. Outside of academics, I enjoy anything in the arts—singing, drawing, and painting. I’ve been involved in art programs since middle school and enjoy working with other artists interested in perfecting their craft. Before Smith, I completed 4 years of French and an advanced Spanish course on Gender and Sexuality in Latin America. I also took an AP-equivalent Calculus AB class in my senior year of high school and received what would be a 5 on the final. I took an advanced art course in my junior and senior year, and outside of school, participated in Parson’s Pre-Youth Fine Arts courses. At Smith, I’ve completed Calculus II, an advanced French elective on Francophone Film, and courses on the American Presidency and Linguistics. In the upcoming Spring semester, I will be completing an advanced Spanish course and Multivariable Calculus along with two classes on religion in American politics and American pop culture. I also am part of Blackapella and POCappella, both of which are affinity acapella groups here at Smith. Whether I am helping a student with differential equations or with the many past tenses in French, I will always make our time engaging, fulfilling, and, most importantly, fun.

Ruby
Smith College, majoring in Chinese with a concentration on Korean
Tutoring subjects:
Korean (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), Chinese (beginner, intermediate), English (as a second language, or even first!), Spanish (up to AP level), film and media studies
Test results:
AP Exams: English Language (4), English Literature (4), Spanish (4)
Hello! My name is Ruby, and I'm a Chinese major at Smith College, who is also completing the translation concentration with a focus on Korean. I am originally from Austin, Texas, and have been studying Spanish since elementary school. In addition to those three languages, I am also taking Thai classes at UMass, which I quite enjoy! I really love learning new languages and using what I've learned in each to further my proficiency in the others. I have previous experience working as a private online Korean tutor, creating my own weekly lesson plans tailored to each student, as well as working as an ESL teacher assisting in English grammar and pronunciation for non-native speakers (specifically Chinese speakers). Through these various projects, I am consistently improving my English, Korean, and Chinese. I am extremely passionate about language acquisition and using the arts to learn about the many different linguistic and cultural aspects of our world. I participated in a film-studies pathway in high school, as well as a non-profit youth film collective outside of school, where I learned the fundamentals of filmmaking, producing, and editing. I also have a strong interest in music, especially international music like K-pop and Mando-pop. In the summer of 2024, I studied abroad in Korea and took a traditional Korean music class. Through this experience, I learned the importance of incorporating cultural elements in foreign language acquisition, as it is both an exciting and super fun way to learn. Because of this experience, I like to incorporate different kinds of elements, such as film and music, to support students' different learning styles. For me, teaching languages is a very fulfilling experience. I love being able to help young people expand their knowledge and open doors to multicultural experiences and opportunities. I hope to make an impact on my tutees, and I am dedicated to making their language learning experience as fun and engaging as possible!

Evy

Hey! My name is Evy and I’m a first year at Smith College majoring in Education and on the elementary teaching licensure track. I have extensive experience working with kids through experiences working at a preschool, several years of babysitting, and an internship at my local children’s museum. I designed lessons and activities, co-running classrooms in both the preschool and children's museum and I have extensive experience with younger children. Currently, I am a volunteer tutor for under-achieving elementary school students at a local community center, which has been a very fulfilling role. I have the most experience with teaching younger kids, so I would be a great fit for early math, science, reading, or writing help! I tutor in all subjects for lower grades (K-8) and I would love to help with high school level writing. Through high school, I excelled at English, proofreading peer works, and also took AP courses in several different disciplines, which I would love to help with as well. Additionally, I’ve been learning Japanese for over ten years and would be open to teaching the language at a beginner to low-intermediate level, potentially covering the two alphabets, basic kanji, beginning vocabulary, and more. I like to teach by breaking complex or difficult ideas into simpler concepts, because it’s the way that I’ve always learned too, but I take time to get to know each student’s learning style so I can tailor lessons to what engages them most. Above all, my goal is to make tutoring enjoyable for a student—not just another task on their to-do list.

Sabria
Smith College, majoring in Chemistry
Tutoring subjects:
Biology, Chemistry, English, French, Math
Test results:
ACT: 33 Composite (Math 30, Science 34, Reading 35, English 34)
Hello! My name is Sabria, I am from Cambridge, MA, and I am a first year at Smith College majoring in Chemistry, on a pre-dental track, graduating in 2029. I love working with kids, and especially enjoyed my summer internships at the New England Aquarium; being able to teach children about exciting marine animals was very fun. I’ve also had experience working with kids through ELA tutoring, math homework help, and babysitting which I’ve done all throughout high school. Before Smith, I attended the International School of Boston, a bilingual school that taught classes in both English and French. I also completed the International Baccalaureate, with the following classes: English A Literature, French A Language and Literature, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics Applications and Interpretation, and Geography. At Smith, I completed Calculus I, Advanced General Chemistry, and a writing class on America in 1925. In the upcoming Spring semester, I will be completing Calculus II, Biology: Cells and Molecules, Organic Chemistry I, along with a Creative Writing class. My priorities when working in academics with students is to keep them engaged and excited for the lesson. Growing up learning topics in two separate languages, I understand what it feels like to be confused, and I thoroughly enjoy getting creative with the way topics are presented and explained.
