Hello! My name is Elias, and I am a Junior at Skidmore College studying physics. After college, I intend to get a PhD in condensed matter physics. Since high school, I have worked in tutoring across a number of fields, and I am continuing that in college. I have completed general physics, modern physics, and upper-level physics classes with straight As. I’m particularly good at Electrodynamics and Classical Mechanics. I’ve completed up to Multivariable Calculus, and have extensive experience in both teaching and using trigonometric math. I’ve also scored strongly on English and History AP tests, and have since taken classes in those fields during college. Since starting college, I have participated in computational research into optical physics, where I use Linux, Mathematica, and Python to code models of nonlinear optical interactions. During the summer, I’ve been doing biophysics research for the National Science Foundation. Outside of school, I’m a huge nerd. I love playing Dungeons and Dragons, among other games, and have written a number of fantasy and sci-fi short stories. I’m also an avid chess player and game developer in my free time.

Hello! My name is Sophia and I’m a freshman at Skidmore college, planning to major in Biology and minor in Music. I enjoy a wide range of subjects, with particular strengths in biology and math, as I love problem solving and logical thinking. As a first-year student I am completing core courses such as General Chemistry and Molecular Biology, which has strengthened my academic foundation in such subjects. Outside of academics I am a classical pianist with nearly 13 years of experience. Studying piano has taught me discipline, patience, and creativity- traits that I bring into my teaching as well. Music is a powerful way to express oneself and helps develops important skills that extend into many aspects of life. I truly enjoy working with kids and have gained lots of experience through summer camp counseling, babysitting, and volunteering as a tutor. My aim as a teacher is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. By breaking concepts down to their smallest pieces and taking things step by step, I help students build a deeper level of understanding and create a strong foundation in core subjects. I enjoy helping students build confidence, develop life-long skills, and find that learning can be engaging and fun!

Pema
Skidmore College, Class of 2026, majoring in English with a minor in Film and Media Studies
Tutoring subjects:
English (all levels), creative writing (poetry and fiction), essay writing and revisions (all subjects), literary analysis, film studies, film and script writing, Adobe Premiere / film editing fundamentals, creative projects in film and media, piano (beginner level)
I am a senior at Skidmore College (2026), majoring in English with a minor in Film and Media Studies. Since my Sophomore year, I’ve worked as a Writing Center tutor where I’ve developed a strong foundation for guiding students through revision, outlining, writing challenges, and all stages of the writing process. I deeply value creating a relaxed, collaborative place. Because I used to feel intimidated asking for academic help, I am committed to creating a supportive environment where students feel respected, listened to, and assured in their abilities. I am confident in tutoring in English, creative writing (poetry and fiction), academic essays, and film studies. My experience includes supporting students with literary analysis, vocabulary practice, poetry interpretation, and analytical film writing (especially helping them to think critically about narrative, style, and tone). I am also passionate about the arts: I’ve played piano for ten years, and I enjoy teaching beginner students. Additionally, I have experience as a film TA, teaching high school students both editing basics in Adobe Premiere and helping them put their creative ideas into script form.

Outside of academics, I am a member of Skidmore’s Equestrian Team and enjoy reading, crocheting, knitting, and music. I previously ran my high school theatre club and served as captain of the equestrian team, competing in IEA through Zone II finals individually.
