Duke University, Class of 2028, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Spanish and a certificate in Child Education Policy

Tutoring subjects:

K-8 math and English/writing, beginner and intermediate Spanish, visual arts like painting and drawing, beginner/young age lacrosse and cross country

My name is Dylan, and I am a sophomore at Duke University studying Psychology, with a minor in Spanish and a certificate in Child Education Policy. I plan to pursue a PhD in educational psychology, with a focus on supporting neurodivergent learners and improving how we support students in academic settings. I offer tutoring for elementary and middle school students in math, English, and Spanish (beginner to intermediate). I’m especially passionate about working with younger students and helping them build long-lasting academic skills in a way that feels engaging and fun. I have several years of experience working with children in both academic and classroom settings. For the past two years, I’ve worked part-time as a co-lead teacher at a preschool, where I help plan activities, build confidence, and work with families. I was also a peer tutor in high school and have additional experience tutoring elementary and middle school students. I’ve volunteered at Club Boulevard Elementary School in Durham, where I worked in their first Spanish/English bilingual kindergarten classroom, helping students with math and reading skills in both languages. I have experience working with neurodivergent learners, particularly students with ADHD, dyslexia, and autism. I enjoy working collaboratively with students to figure out what strategies work best for them to become excited about learning, even for kids who don’t think they like school Outside of academics, I enjoy painting and drawing, as well as running and playing lacrosse, and I bring that creativity and energy to each tutoring session.

Duke University, Class of 2029, majoring in Neuroscience on the pre-med track

Tutoring subjects:

Math, Chemistry, Biology

Test results:

SAT: 1540 (780 Math, 760 English)

AP Scores:  Biology (5), Calculus BC (5), Chemistry (5), Statistics (5)

Hello! I’m Ethan, and I’m a freshman at Duke University, majoring in Neuroscience on the pre-med track. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve experienced both the frustration of not understanding something and the satisfaction of finally having it click. Those moments have shaped my passion for tutoring, and I enjoy helping others regain that clarity. In high school, I was very involved in tutoring–helping students in a variety of STEM subjects such as Math, Chemistry, and Biology. I was also captain of the varsity fencing team and gave many private lessons to beginner fencers. Now at Duke, I am part of a volunteer program where I tutor kids on how to play piano! Beyond academics, I am on the Division 1 fencing team at Duke, which has shaped my ability to stay patient, adapt quickly, and be disciplined. I’ve also played piano for 13 years, which has reinforced my attention to detail and ability to break down complex things into simple steps. These are qualities that directly translate into how I aim to help students. My goal is to support students not just in getting better grades, but in building confidence and a stronger mindset towards learning!
